Romeo and Juliet
by William Shakespeare — Student Theatre at Glasgow, 2007
these violent delights have violent ends
and in their triumph die, like fire and powder,
which, as they kiss, consume.
The production presented a radically edited version of Shakespeare's text, stripping back references to time and place and focusing on the personal drama and interplay between the characters.
The mise-en-scene reflected this focus, with the objective of making Shakespeare's story and poetry the centrepeice of the work, which also re-imagined the story's fights as exuberant sequences of contemporary dance, choreographed by NSCD graduate Zosia Dowmunt.
